H-2B cap limit reached

US Citizenship and Immigration Services has stopped receiving applications for H-2B visa for the first half of 2014 fiscal year. The statutory limit of 33,000 H-2B workers in specialized fields has been reached earlier this month. This means that USCIS will not accept new H-2B petitions requesting an employment start date before April 1, 2014. Exempt from the mandated cap are petitions from current H-2B visa holders who wish to extend their stay in the US, change terms of their employment or change their employer.
